The 2021 National Cultural Congress held its regional forum at the Cultural Heritage Park in Taichung on Nov. 13, attended by over 120 participants from industries, the government, and the academia.
The forum was also broadcast live, and allowed those who were not present to express their opinions and take part in dialogues through the conference software Slido.
Revolving around "undying culture," this year’s National Cultural Congress explores the topics of "Strengthening Local Culture and History," "Translating and Application of Taiwanese Cultural Values," "Promoting cultural cross-domain and international cooperation" and "Youth participation and Cultural Equality." MOC hopes that opinions from all walks of life can be collected, so that these interrelated cultural issues may once again be brought to light and used as an important reference for future cultural policies.
In an opening speech, Deputy Minister of Culture Hsiao Tsung-huang (萧宗煌) expressed his gratitude to the guests who participated in the grand event with enthusiasm. Hsiao pointed out that the Ministry of Culture organizes the National Cultural Congress every four years in accordance with the "Culture Basic Law."
In terms of "Strengthening Local Culture and History," the head of National Taichung University of Education Department of Taiwanese Language and Literature, Lin Mao-hsien (林茂賢) emphasized the importance of knowing one's own traditional culture. Dean of Taipei National University of the Arts School of Culture Resources, Lin Chengwei (林承緯) shared that the preservation of cultural assets in Japan is handled by the Education Committee, which is different from Taiwan.
MOC pointed out that each topic was analyzed and discussed by experts, and the forum accepted questions from people online. The questions covered a range of issues, and the government personnel was responsible for addressing each question.
