Culture Minister mourns the passing of veteran actor Ku Pao-ming

Veteran Taiwanese actor Ku Pao-ming (顧寶明) passed away on Mar. 19 at the age of 72. Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te paid his respects at the funeral service on Mar. 25 and expressed his deepest condolences.


Born in 1950, Ku was involved in Taiwanese television shows, theater and stage productions for many years. He was a two-time winner at the Golden Bell Awards – taking home the Best Leading Actor for his role in "He is My Brother (他是我兄弟)" in 1982 and Mini-series Supporting Actor Award for "Ammunition and Knives (砲彈與菜刀)" in 2006. He was also recognized with a Golden Horse Award for his supporting role in "The Peach Blossom Land (暗戀桃花源)" in 1992. His superb performance brought great joy to the audience, and he was named the "King of Comedy."


Minister Lee said Ku had a lifelong passion for acting and was active in television shows, movies, and stage plays, and was recognized with Golden Bell and Golden Horse awards for his outstanding achievements. He added that he is a long-time fan of Ku Pao-ming, and expressed his deepest condolences and respect.


Saddened by the loss of Ku, MOC stated that Ku's passing leaves a legacy that will be cherished forever by future generations.
