Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the 13th Golden Comic Awards (GCA) competition is now open for submissions, with the total prize money raised to NT$2.75 million. For the first time, foreign artists can apply by submitting original works recently published in Taiwan. Submissions will be accepted from now until June 16.
MOC stated that as part of its efforts to show encouragement, a cash prize of NT$10,000 will be given to each entry that is shortlisted. Another new offer is a NT$150,000 prize for the Special Contribution Award, which did not carry a cash reward previously.
To attract more talents and enrich the comic environment in Taiwan, MOC will be accepting submissions from foreign artists whose original works were recently published in Taiwan. In recent years, various government agencies have been collaborating with Taiwanese comics and graphic artists to create works that feature cultural and historical collections or public policies. The works have become increasingly diversified and similar to commercial works, therefore, the Government Comic Award category has been scrapped so that the competition can return to its core fundamentals.
Applicants are required to apply online on the Ministry’s website: https://grants.moc.gov.tw/. For any further queries, please contact Ms. Lin from MOC’s Department of Humanities & Publications at （02）8512-6494.
