Tainan's Shueijiaoshe Historical Dormitory, which was designated as a city historic site in 2004, won the silver award in the Heritage category at the prestigious 2022 FIABCI World Prix d'Excellence Awards, demonstrating the international standard of Taiwan's heritage and landscape restoration projects.
A total of 38 world's best property developments were awarded World Winners at the presentation ceremony and gala dinner on June 9 at Lido de Paris in France. Of the 38 awards, 15 were World Gold Awards and 23 were World Silver Awards. These winning developments were from the United States of America, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hungary, Singapore, and Malaysia.
According to a press release issued by the Tainan Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage, the Shueijiaoshe Historical Dormitory has previously received an Outstanding Award of the TILA Landscape Awards in 2020 and FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards in 2021.
The Japanese-style dormitory area of Shueijiaoshe was a housing community for military personnel who served in Tainan Navy Air Squadron and their dependents. After World War II, Shueijiaoshe was taken over by the Aviation Commission (the predecessor of the Air Force Headquarters) and was used as the base for the 443rd Tactical Fighter Wing. More housing facilities were then built to provide accommodation for military personnel and their dependents.
Tainan City Government began the restoration and landscape planning project in 2016 and 2018, respectively, with the aim of restoring the original appearance of the site and preserving the historical traces of the village. Since its opening on December 25, 2019, it has attracted over 520,000 visits.
FIABCI is the French acronym for "Fédération Internationale des Administrateurs de Bien-Conselis Immobiliers," which means "The International Real Estate Federation" in English. FIABCI World Prix d'Excellence Awards recognize the projects that best embody excellence in all real estate disciplines involved in its creation. It illustrates concretely the FIABCI ideal of "providing society with the optimal solution to its property needs."
