Taiwan underwater exhibition wins Red Dot Design Award

According to the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of Taiwan, "Beneath Taiwan, Beyond Dive—The First Taiwan Underwater Exhibition in Hong Kong," organized by the Hong Kong Office of the Taiwan Visitors Association in collaboration with camera brand Olympus Corporation, won the Red Dot Design Award in the Brands & Communication Design category.

The Tourism Bureau stated that the water surrounding Taiwan offers a wealth of ocean resources and makes the island a well-known scuba dive site, which has become a popular place for Hong Kongers to go scuba diving. Therefore, the HK Office of the Taiwan Visitors Association and its strategic partner, Olympus, held an underwater exhibition in Hong Kong to recreate renowned dive spots in Taiwan. With the exhibition, the Taiwan Visitors Association attempts to promote Taiwan’s marine tourism resources and build up its image as a marine nation. At the event, Hong Kongers can experience the "underwater getaway in Taiwan" at the bottom of a swimming pool.

The HK Office of the Taiwan Visitors Association said it's an honor for the promotional event to be recognized with the award. As Taiwan is surrounded by the ocean, each dive site has its special feature, including Xiaoliuqiu, a tiny coral island where hundreds of sea turtles are inhabited; Green Island, a world-famous diving paradise to the east of Taitung city; the northeast coast where visitors can find an array of small sea creatures; and Penghu with a rich coral reef ecosystem. It is hoped that more Hong Kongers will travel to Taiwan after the COVID-19 pandemic to discover the beauty of these dive spots.

Huge photographs taken by renowned photographers, life-size images of sea turtles, and the coral reef scenery of Penghu in 3D visualization, were displayed at the exhibition. In addition, the event provided participants with various underwater experiences, for example, sending postcards through the underwater mailbox and taking photos of miniature ocean animals with waterproof cameras.
