The 2016 Taipei International Book Exhibition will run from Feb. 16 through 21 at the Taipei World Trade Center to promote books, comics, digital publishing, international publishers, and authors from around the world.
Highlights of the 24th edition of the book fair will include a display by the Taiwan Association for Independent Bookshop Culture (台灣獨立書店文化協會) to present the timeline and history of Taiwan's bookstores, as well as theme exhibitions on guest country Hungary, French and German Pavilions, and a section on international comics.
Furthermore, the Children's Book Pavilion has adopted the theme "Flying to the World” to showcase drawings from Taiwan, Portugal, and Hungary and present the illustrations of different cultures.
In addition to pictures books, the Children's Book Pavilion will offer the books selected by Ministry of Culture's Books for Youth program, and a newly created program called "TIBE Field Trip” will welcome teachers and students to visit the book fair as a school event.
The 24th TIBE will also offer a section on digital publishing and reading, which will allow visitors to browse and read on screens by interacting with the touchscreen devices.
A "Reading Bistro (讀字小酒館)” curated by the Association of Independent Publishers (獨立出版聯盟) will present a "reading feast” planned by 24 independent and four self-publishers from Taiwan and five independent publishers from Hong Kong.
Additional forums will be hosted by local writers Su Wei-zhen (蘇偉貞), Chen Li (陳黎), and Lin Jun-ying (林俊穎) to share their experiences from the International Writing Program (IWP), a residency program that invites writers from all over the world for cultural exchanges at Iowa State University.
"Exhibition of Eileen's Style,” a retrospective event timed to coincide with the second decade of writer Eileen Chang's (張愛玲) passing, will be held alongside the 24th TIBE to showcase personal items, manuscripts, photo albums, and paintings.
The book fair offers free entry for visitors under the age of 18 and half-priced one-day tickets for those who present their student ID. A full-day pass is priced at NT$100 and a six-day pass is priced at NT$200.
