A children's choir from an innovative educational initiative named Unique Atayal College (泰雅學堂) will hold a special outdoor performance in front of Hsinchu's Far Eastern Department Store (新竹大遠百). The College was established seven years ago to provide academic resources to students in remote regions, and uses music to pass on the wisdom and traditions of the Atayal people.
The world-acclaimed New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic will be streamed live from Austria to three outdoor cultural venues in Taiwan. The annual broadcasting tradition has been ongoing for over 14 years, and this year's hosts will be the Fulfillment Amphitheatre in Taichung; Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Arts in Kaohsiung; and the newly opened southern branch of the National Palace Museum in Chiayi. The live broadcast will also be available on channel TTV (台視).
For those who yearn for a closer glimpse of the Taipei 101 fireworks yet disdain the huge crowds, the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall may be a more suitable choice. Situated just outside Taiwan's landmark skyscraper, the Memorial Hall will offer free access to its plazas and washrooms until midnight on New Year's Eve.
