The Ministry of Culture will offer a total of NT$7.5 million (US$236,900) to five arts groups through an annual digital performing arts subsidy program.
The recipients include Anarchy Dance Theatre Taiwan (安娜琪舞蹈劇場), whose extended edition of an experimental project titled "Second Body” featuring a panoramic projection will be staged at Greece's Fasma Festival. The project has also drawn interest from the New York-based 3LD Art & Technology Center and the Ars Electronica Festival in Austria.
The Multi-X Theatre Company (魔梯形體劇團) will also receive funding for its proposal on a multimedia project that incorporates electrical lights with animation technology.
Techno-dance artist Huang Yi's (黃翊) collaboration with Japanese artist Ryoichi Kurokawa "Under the Horizon—Second Stage,” a project fusing 3D projection and real-time interactivevideo installation, is also one of the funded projects.
The Egret Culture and EducationFoundation (財團法人白鷺鷥文教基金會) was also selected for its techno art project "Road,” which combines Taiwanese opera, modern dance, indigenous dance, and music while taking advantage of wearable devices, 3D projection, and a real-time body motion capturing system. The project starring Taiwanese opera diva Tang Mei-yun (唐美雲), scriptwriter Shih Ju-fang (施如芳), and new media artistHuang Hsin-chien (黃心健) tells the story of an indigenous young woman who fell into a river during a storm after seeing her teacher off.
Rounding up the five selected arts groups is M.O.V.E. Theatre (動見体), who proposed a mobile edition of its "Dear John” project that involves collaboration with several artists, including Lin Kuei-ju (林桂如), Wang Chung-kun (王仲堃), Tung Yi-fen (董怡芬), and Fu Hung-cheng (符宏征).
The funding program has subsidized 53 projects and granted $95.27 million since 2010. The supported groups have extensively applied wearable technology, the internet of things, kinetic technology, cloud computing, and social networking to their creations, and the final execution of their projects are highly artistic, exquisite, and interactive.
