Modern dancers from the Nai-ni Chen Dance Company will celebrate their troupe's 25th anniversary with two sets of performances in New York on April 26 and 27.
The cross-culture contemporary group was established in 1988 by Nai-ni Chen (陳乃霓), a Taiwanese dancer who trained under the world-renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre.
Since their inception, Nai-ni Chen Dance Company has toured over 35 states in the U.S., and performed in 10 nations around the world. However, Chen has always chosen New York to debut her new works because of the city's welcoming attitude towards avant-garde art.
The New Jersey-based dance company is especially renowned for crossing boundaries of art and experimenting in new methods of combining dance with other visual expressions of culture.
For the two ticketed performances in April, Chen and her dancers will share the stage with American composer Joan La Barbara, the Korean classical music ensemble Ahn Trio sisters, and Grammy-winning percussionist Glen Velez.
The dance company will also debut its latest work, "Not Alone,” which features composer Chen Yi (陳怡) and the Prism Saxophone Quartet, in New York.
