Tsai Hsiao-ying (蔡筱穎), a Taiwanese journalist stationed in Paris, has been appointed the new director of the Taiwan Culture Center in Paris. She will be filling the vacancy left by Chen Chih-cheng (陳志誠), who completed his term on Dec. 31, 2013.
Tsai has worked for various Taiwan-based media, including the Taiwan Television Enterprise, the Broadcasting Corporation of China, the China Times, and the Central News Agency, since 1992. She is a seasoned observer of the arts and cultural trends in France, and is fully versed in the audiovisual industries, politics, and economies of Europe.
In her capacity as a foreign correspondent, she has also covered many major cultural exchange events held in Europe, such as the annual Taiwan-France Cultural Award organized by the Ministry of Culture. The appointment aims to utilize Tsai's familiarity with Europe to help integrate Taiwan's culture into the daily lives of European citizens.
The top priority of the Taiwan Culture Center in Paris, which was established in 1993, is to introduce Taiwan's culture and arts to Europe. Tsai, who received a doctorate from University of Paris VIII in 2002 and retains substantial experience from her long-time position as the French correspondent for the Central News Agency, is expected to take Taiwan-France cultural ties to higher levels.
