The 6th Cross-Strait Xiamen CulturalIndustries Fair will run for three days at the Xiamen International Exhibition Centre starting Oct. 25. This year, 15 top Taiwanese artisans will present their works at the Taiwan Pavilion, which will cover an area of nearly 1,000 pings (3,300 square meters) and display over 1,000 items, the largest number of displayed items since the launch of the event.
The artisans come from 10 fields, including stone art, porcelain, leather craft and metal work. Among the companies invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) to participate in the fair are Tai Hua Pottery, You Qi Yuan, Spring PoolGlass and Tian Guan Yin Mou. The Taiwan Pavilion features several lacquered pieces and rock tea trays worth more than NT$1 million (US$34,068).
Moreover, Yii, a leading Taiwanese craft brand known for its handmade and limited products, will present a bamboo sling chair named "Wave,” which was designed by theCampana Brothersfrom Brazil in collaboration with local bamboo artisan Yeh Chi-hsiang.
As a major annual event for the cultural and creative industry, the deals reached at the fair approach average NT$10 billion each year. This year, the NTCRI aims to boost market penetration byintroducing moreleading Taiwanese craft pieces to consumers in mainland China.
