MINISTER 'WILLING' TO VISIT CHINA IF INVITED

Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai said on Wednesday that she is more than willing to visit China if invited since her Chinese counterpart came to Taiwan two years ago.

The Minister made the remark at a press conference held to brief the media on her visit to the United States and Canada in late August. The tour of North America was aimed at promoting cultural exchanges and conveying Taiwan's eagerness to engage with the international community.

Although it was her first overseas trip since being sworn into office in February, visits to other countries, including France and Britain, are also being arranged, she added.

Asked whether she is likely to visit China in her capacity as the head of Taiwan's Ministry of Culture, Lung said her title must be mutually accepted by both sides and the best time for such a visit will be early next year.

'I think since Minister Cai Wu visited two years ago, I should visit him in return out of courtesy,' she stated. 'As for the time, if Beijing invites me after the Legislature approves our (2013) budget in this session, for example in November or December, I'm really willing to go.'
