Creative expo returns with culture-driven design for daily life

Creative Expo Taiwan will mark its 8th edition this year with the theme "Body Knowledge" to explore new possibilities of design through culture-driven thinking and connect all areas of life to boost the creativity of Taiwan from April 18 through 22.

Vice Culture Minister Lee Lien-chuan (李連權) and Creative Expo Taiwan ambassadors Huang Tzu-chiao (黃子佼) and Chu Cha-ray (曲家瑞) respectively appeared as an outdoor workout lover, a fashionable mountain climber, and a contemporary artist on a catwalk stunt at a press conference held in Huashan 1914 Creative Park on April 9.

Unlike previous editions, Creative Expo Taiwan this year will launch a new Cultural Concept Exhibition Hall that offers exhibitions featuring themes such as "Body Knowing," "Body Imaging," "Body Making," "Taiwan Hip Hop Kids," and "Body Defining."

Altogether, the three main venues of Huashan 1914 Creative Park, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and Flora Expo Dome will boast a total of 559 booths from 23 countries to present new cultural concepts, design brands, and original images for licensing.

In addition, a "museum of high mountains" will be revealed for the first time at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park to contemplate the beauty of nature.

The concept came from curator Pang Wang (王耀邦) and Cicada band leader Jesy Chiang (江致潔), who shared their experiences of climbing Xueshan — the second highest mountain in Taiwan — and explained the concept and features of the high-mountain museum during the press conference.

Odor Funder, a Kaohsiung-based perfume shop, has also designed a high-mountain brand of perfume named "Sylvia No. 9" to stimulate creativity through a unique scent.

Additional creative markets and film screenings will also be held throughout the expo to make every venue a place for imagination, contemplation, and discussion.

The press conference was also joined by participating companies and brands to showcase this year’s highlights and how they reflect the theme of using the human body as "a catalyst to stimulate originality and create generational change."

The Ministry of Culture hopes to elevate the brand of Taiwanese culture and aesthetics as well as create new possibilities for the cultural and creative sector through the exposition. More information can be found here and here.
