Lumber 11, a joint exhibition featuring artisanal shoe cabinets designed by Finnish designer Tuomas Markunpoika and handmade by Taiwanese craft artists, will be held at Creative Tainan PLUS (台南文創PLUS) from Dec. 21 through Jan. 24, 2016.
Organized by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, the exhibition first opened at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei before traveling to southern Taiwan to showcase designs made with wood and glass to match the theme of "furniture for shoes.”
Markunpoika, an award-winning Finnish designer based in Amsterdam, is a furniture designer whose idea is to elevate functional everyday objects into works of design by using different kinds of materials.
A total of 12 artists and studios based in Taiwan, including shoe manufacturer O'Ringo (林果良品) and Vetri Glass Art studio (光合玻璃有限公司), will present their designs.
Visitors will see furniture in a new light through the hand-made products, which are made with complex designs of wood and glass that transform functional furniture into home fashion décor.
