Address: No. 1 Zhongxiao E. Road Sec. 1, Taipei City 10058
The Executive Yuan Art Gallery will display a selection of art pieces spanning from porcelain to gold, silver, lacquer, and wood crafts starting from June 12 through Dec. 12, 2015. The exhibition will also be available online through the official sites of the Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Culture, and the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute.
The featured artworks were chosen from the 2014 Taiwan Craft Competition, in which only 67 pieces out of 502 submissions were accepted. The Executive Yuan Art Gallery will showcase 35 pieces by 11 shortlisted artists to demonstrate the diversity and creativity of Taiwanese crafts.
Visitors will be able see many sophisticated techniques through artworks such as the lacquered urn decorated with nine gold dragons by Yan Jin-yi (顏金益); Huang Siang-si's (黃湘禧) moth orchid plant made with stainless steel and reef stone; and the royal dinnerware set by coppersmiths Sin Yi-huei (辛怡慧) and Fong Ke-jia (馮可嘉). Their creations reflect the diverse elements of traditional Chinese culture.
The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute aims to promote Taiwan's crafts industry by providing a platform for artisans to develop and market their creations through competitions and exhibitions. The innovation and aesthetics of Taiwan's crafts have also become more widely known and appreciated through annual events such as the Taiwan Craft Competition organized by the Nantou-based institute.
