Address:Yenping Old Street, Xiluo Township, Yunlin County
An annual town-centered art festival will be held at Yunlin County's Xiluo Township (西螺鎮) this year as part of the Ministry of Culture's community empowerment program. The festival features the unique characteristics of the host town while promoting regional tourism for other less-visited communities in central Taiwan.
As a town with more than three centuries of history and rich cultural heritage and unique historic monuments, Xiluo can surely make a wonderful art festival venue, said Liu Hsuan-yung (劉玄詠), director of the co-organizing National Changhua Living Art Center.
The week-long festival will open on Dec. 4 with a talk titled "Living in the Moment” by renowned percussionist Ju Tzong-ching (朱宗慶) on Dec. 6, followed by a grand parade in the afternoon.
Other programs include a concert featuring the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra (長榮交響樂團), violinist Su Shien-ta (蘇顯達), pianist Ai Chia-hui (艾嘉蕙), and cellist Tseng Chia-yi (曾加宜).
They will play Ludwig van Beethoven's classics in the first half of the concert, while a film combining images and classical music from the album "Sketches of Taiwan” will premiere in the second half of the program.
Other performers that will attend the festival are O-Kai Singers (歐開合唱團), the Song Song Song Children's & Puppet Theatre (九歌兒童劇團), Sun Son Theatre (身聲劇團), Mad Theatre (極至體能舞蹈團), Tunghai University's Musical Theatre (東海大學音樂劇團), and the student orchestra of the National Tainan University (臺南大學管樂團). Die Singphoniker from Germany will also join the closing concert on Dec. 14.
In addition to the above programs, a wide variety of street performances and exhibitions on artworks made by different communities' cultural and art workshops will take place on the streets of Xiluo during the festival. Visit the event's Facebook page for more information.
