Place:National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute
An international exhibition featuring crafts and home décor products accentuated with natural dyes will take place at the Craft Design Center in Nantou County from Oct. 8 through Dec. 7.
Echoing eco-conscious sentiments from around the world, the Nantou exhibition has gathered artists from nations such as Japan, the United States, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom to showcase how they've applied their unique aesthetics to eco-friendly materials by creating a line of trendy and appealing products.
A total of 65 world-class displays have been shipped from 10 countries to Taiwan for the two-month exhibition on the theme of "Original Colors.” Visitors will be delighted to see the different applications of natural dyes in the making of furniture, interior decorations, artworks, and fashionable garments.
The Craft Design Center of the National Taiwan CraftResearch and Development Institute, the host venue of the exhibition, has also been re-imagined by Keisuke Toyoda of Noiz Architects. Using fine mesh and round fabric trays, Toyoda has suspended natural-dyedfabrics from the center's 4.5-meter-tall ceiling to create a gauzy textile forest for visitors to walk through.
The "2014 International Craft Design Exhibition on Natural Dyes” is a precursor event to the International Forum on Natural Dyes & the World Eco-Fiber and Textile Forum (WEFT) in Taiwan, which will also take place in Nantou on Oct. 15 and 16. The two-day event is expected to attract 357 experts from 23 countries; read more about the forumhere.
