The annual Youth Innovative Design Festival in Kaohsiung, which was launched in 2005 as a platform for aspiring creative design students based in southern Taiwan, is set to unfold at the Pier-2 Art Center from May 2 through 11.
The festival integrates resources from the government, enterprises, and private organizations, serving as a platform for students and youth to display their works and compete with each other. Now a major stage for young designers, the event holds exhibitions on various themes and art forms.
Youth artists are allowed to present their works and receive significant recognition by winning the festival's different competitions. They are also offered many opportunities for collaboration with professionals working in the creative industries, thus kick-starting their own careers.
The 2014 exhibition will display designs in many categories, from audiovisual media, visual design, digital technology, and games design, to installation art design.
The nine-day festival will also include a series of events such as forums held by media professionals, designers, and design professors; an art fair showcasing students and their works; and a film festival that aims to facilitate industry exchanges among student-made short films and animations around Taiwan.
Since 2012, the festival has recommended winning titles to international film competitions, including the Fresh Wave Short Film Competition in Hong Kong.
