A children's poetry and ballad workshop will mark the start of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the National Museum of Taiwan Literature's youth literature program on April 12.
The series of events will feature children's poetry and ballads written in different languages spoken in Taiwan to instill a deeper appreciation for literature in children.
On April 12 at 2 PM, the series will kick off with Bunun poet Salizan Takisvilainan Islituan, who will introduce his aboriginal Bunun culture to children at the event by telling a Bunun folktale and singing Bunun nursery rhymes.
Salizan, whose Chinese name is Chao Chung-yi, was born in Hualien County in eastern Taiwan. He teaches the Bunun language at an elementary school in his hometown, and documents the tribe's customs and stories in his free time by chatting with the elders of his community.
