Over 300 pages of comics created by design students from four Taiwaneseuniversities will be on display at a special two-day exhibition. The event is part of a new talent-training program for the comics industry that was launched by the Ministry of Culture to foster and enhance the quality of professionals.
The 'Comic Time' exhibition, which will take place at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park on March 15 and 16, is divided in five sections: Classic Legends, Darkness and Light, Metropolitan Death Dash, Fight for the Crown, and Jump and Jiggle.
Since October 2013, the Ministry has commissioned two design companies — Flying Fish Creativity Co. Ltd. (飛魚文創公司) and Dowell Advertising Co. Ltd. (杜葳廣告公司) — to cooperate with local universities to hold workshops and seminars for renowned international cartoonists to train new design talents.
The four schools are the Department of Digital Multimedia Arts at Shih-Hsin University, the Department of Advertising at Ming Chuan University, the Department and Graduate Institute of Media Art at Kun Shan University, and the Department of Multimedia and Animation Arts at National Taiwan University of Arts.
Those students whose works have been selected for the exhibition will have a chance to intern at cultural and creative companies through a series of partnership programs forthcoming from the Ministry.
Through such series of assistance, the Ministry hopes to provide a platform for nurturing and launching young comic artists, as well as to recruit more academic institutes to provide more guidance for the local comics industry.
