‘The Authenic Classic - Reinhard Goebel & NSO’

Place:National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) is teaming up with world-renowned German conductor Reinhard Goebel to bring a historically informed performance of celebrated classical music to Taipei on Dec. 14.

Speaking at a press conference in Taipei on Dec. 12, Gobel said he hopes the performance at the National Concert Hall will give Taiwanese concertgoers a glimpse into how the pieces were performed at the time they were conceived -with historically accurate instrumentation.

The concert will feature 14-year-old Taiwanese violin prodigy Sophie Wang, who won first place in the prestigious International Louis Spohr Competiton last month. She will be performing Violin Concerto No. 3 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The repertoire will also include music works from Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Joseph Haydn.

Goebel, selected by BBC Music as one of the 'world's top 20 violinists of all time,' said he looks forward to working with the NSO, which he praised for its professionalism.

'People here are more awake; they are more flexible and oriented towards work,' the 61-year-old said.
