'Nanguan Diva' featuring modern Taiwanese poetry

Address:No. 10 Chengdu Road, Wanhua District, Taipei City, Taiwan 108

To showcase Taiwan's nanguan musicians, the National Museum of Taiwan Literature will hold a concert at the Red House in Taipei's Ximen area on Nov. 15.

Last month, the Tainan-based National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) organized a Nanguan concert as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. The Oct. 18 concert in Tainan City featuring XinXin Nanguan Ensemble proved to be a huge success, leading to the NMTL's decision to hold a similar event in Taiwan's capital city as well.

Wang Xin-xin, the ensemble founder, is one of the most celebrated nanguan musicians in the Chinese world. She established XinXin Nanguan Ensemble in 2003 to preserve and promote the ancient Chinese music style, and sees the NMTL concerts as an opportunity to introduce nanguan music to the general audience in Taiwan.

When it comes to Wang's vocals, renowned Taiwanese choreographer Lin Hwai-min once said that, "We wait for her in silence before she goes on stage; the moment she starts to sing, we lose sight of our surroundings.”

At the Nov. 15 concert in Taipei, Wang will sing two songs that feature lyrics from Taiwanese poet Yu Kwang-chung's poems, including the well-known "Luoyang Bridge.” The songs were composed by Wang herself.

Free tickets to the concert in Taipei are being given away through the NTML's website athttp://aas.nmtl.gov.tw/.
