The National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will celebrate the 148th birthday of the founding father of the Republic of China on Nov. 12 with a series of engaging events.
This year, a wide variety of activities will take place between Nov. 9 and 12, including a choir-singing relay and a record-breaking calligraphy event with200 calligraphers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, to mark Dr. Sun's birthday.
The general public is encouraged to pay tribute to Dr. Sun by bowing to his statue inside the Memorial Hall. Dr. Sun's doppelganger will also show up that day to take photos with those who've paid their respects. After the solemn rite, visitors can also leave a message on a birthday card for Dr. Sun and receive a free health checkup in return.
Other activities to be held in memory of Dr. Sun include a concert in which bands and musicians will spread his ideas of freedom, equity and indiscriminate love through music, and a Mandarin speech contest for foreign expatriates studying in Taiwan.
A two-day international conference titled "Commemorating Dr. Sun Yat-sen: Chinese Culture and Contemporary Social Development” will also take place on Nov. 12 and 13 at the Memorial Hall.
Lastly, there will also be a commemorative photo exhibition on the mainland Chinese city of Nanjing, where Dr. Sun set up the government of the R.O.C., and pictures of the buildings from the early days of the republic.
