‘BBC Symphony Orchestra on Tour to Asia: Taipei’

Classical music lovers are in for a treat this October, when the sounds of the BBC Symphony Orchestra (BBC SO), one of Britain's top orchestras, resonate through northern and southern Taiwan.

The BBC SO, led by conductor laureate Sir Andrew Davis, will be performing at Taipei's National Concert Hall on Oct. 11, followed the next day by a second performance at the Tainan Municipal Cultural Center, according to event organizer Management of New Arts (MNA).

The concerts will feature "Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1” in D Major and "Enigma Variations” by British composer Edward Elgar, "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra” and "Four Sea Interludes” by British pianist Benjamin Britten, and German conductor Richard Wagner's "Tannhauser Overture.”

Led by Davis, the orchestra made its Taiwan debut in 2002. Its last visit to Taiwan was in 2010 under Czech conductor Jiri Belohlavek.

The BBC SO has been at the heart of British musical life since its inception in 1930. As the flagship orchestra of the BBC, it is the backbone of the BBC Proms, one of the world's most celebrated classical music festivals.
