‘The Poem of Fire – Prometheus’ featuring Huseyin Sermet

The Taichung-based National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) is scheduled to unveil a new season of musical programs called "Fairy Tales · Legends,” with two concerts taking place on Aug. 28 in Taipei and on Aug. 29 in Taichung as the seasonal opening shows.

On the opening night of its 2013/2014 season, NTSO Artistic Advisor Lan Sui will team up with well-known Turkish pianist Huseyin Sermet to usher in the glamorous wonderland of "The Poem of Fire - Prometheus,” named after the heroic Greek deity who gave the first seed of fire to mankind.

"The Poem of Fire,” which will present its intricate storyline in four segments, evokes the dramatic tension in Symphony No. 5 in E minor, the masterpiece by the late Russian Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and the flute-driven symphonic poem Prelude to the afternoon of a Faun from French composer Claude Debussy.

The Aug. 28 concert will take place at the National Concert Hall in Taipei (No. 21-1 Zhongshan S. Road, Taipei 100), whereas the Aug. 29 concert will be held at Taichung's Chunghsing Concert Hall (No. 291-3 Jingwu Rd., Taichung City 404, Taiwan).
