"Grandpa Illustrator of the Picture Book Kingdom,” an exhibition featuring Taiwanese picture book artist Cheng Ming-chin (鄭明進), will be showing at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature in Tainan from July 2 to Sept. 1.
The 80-year-old artist, affectionately nicknamed "Grandpa Illustrator” by his fans, read his first picture book at the age of six and has since published 41 illustrated children's books, 28 discourse studies and 92 translated picture books.
On top of being the first Taiwanese artist to attend an overseas illustration fair, Cheng was also the first illustrator to hold an art exhibition in Taiwan and whose works became the subject of an academic symposium on children's literature.
"Grandpa Illustrator of the Picture Book Kingdom” will include 34 original artworks and the museum hall will be decorated with the landscape and motifs of old-school Tainan.
