Taiwanese artist Cho Chieh-wei's interactive installation work titled "On Off II” will be on display at the Taichung-based National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts through Sept. 22. Cho's work was selected by the NTMFA's program that fosters the development of digital arts in competition.
The artwork reflects on digital technology and bodily behaviors. The audience can change the image they see in the exhibition by controlling the electronic devices Cho designed. The process shows that humans live in a digital world and their memories constitute only a bunch of chaotic information. Exchanges of emotions become lifeless data and electrical waves, so face-to-face interaction is no longer necessary for exchanging messages or communicating needs.
However, people are in turn controlled by technology in spite of the great convenience it has brought. Cho wants the audience to think about the issue while looking at his works.
