An exhibition of Taiwanese art that will kick off in South Korea this month hopes to strengthen the cultural and art ties between the two countries, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts said Monday.
The 'Rolling! Visual Art in Taiwan' exhibition will feature artworks by 32 Taiwanese artists ranging from 40 to 80 years old to highlight different stages in the development of Taiwanese art since the 1960s, the museum said.
The 32 works, including paintings, installation art, sculptures and new media art, will be displayed at the Seoul Museum of Art as part of an agreement signed between the two museums in 2011 to promote closer ties.
Under the agreement, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts held an exhibition titled 'Korean Painting Now' in Taiwan last year to introduce works by prominent contemporary Korean artists to the Taiwanese public.
Hang Tsai-lang, director of the Taiwanese museum, said visitors to the exhibition in South Korea will experience a range of styles, from abstract paintings done in the modern art era in Taiwan in the 1960s to works reflecting local experiences after the 1970s.
Visitors can also see art that reflects on social conditions, gender perspectives, man's relationship with the environment and other issues, Huang added.
Sculptor Ju Ming, painter Liu Kuo-sung, new media artist Chen Chieh-jen and visual artist Lin Ming-hung will be among the artists whose works will be exhibited from April 9 to June 16, the Taiwanese museum said.
