‘Young Rising Stars’ Craft Creation Exhibition: Keep Young and Carry On’

"Young Rising Stars' Craft Creation Exhibition: Keep Young and Carry On," a showcase of 105 craftworks by Taiwanese designers aged 25 through 45, will run at the Nantou-based National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) from July 5 to Nov. 18.

The featured craftworks will vividly show how the younger generations have undergone the process of inheritance and revival of traditional craftworks to creating innovative designs. Through the core values of the exhibition — "Pursuit, Practice, and Persistence" — the organizers hope to demonstrate the process of talent development over the years.

Since its establishment in 1954, NTCRI has been dedicated to the preservation of Taiwanese craftsmanship and cultivation of new talent in related fields. NTCRI Director Hsu Keng-hsiu (許耿修) noted that compared to traditional artisans, young creators have different attitudes toward life and unique perspectives that they incorporate with a wide variety of craft fields.

The key to the inheritance of traditional craftsmanship requires not only craftsmanship, but innovation as well. With outstanding young designers at the helm, contemporary crafts will continue to successfully develop new and distinctive styles, Hsu added. Therefore, this exhibition will not only demonstrate their beliefs in independence, exquisiteness, and personalization, but also showcase the enthusiasm and perseverance it takes to become a young, prominent craftsperson.

During the exhibition, two DIY courses will be available for visitors to experience the joy of craft-making. Please visit www.ntcri.gov.tw for more details.
