Did You Know That … ?

  • Chang Chao-tang is best known for his body of photographic works, which embody western existentialism and Chinese ideology. However, he is also the author of an impressive array of essays and books on Taiwanese photography.

  • Many of Chang's subjects lack a visible head or an unobscured face, a nod to his surrealism roots.

  • He picked up his first camera in 1958 - a borrowed one from his brother, and has since been switching between posed and candid photography.
