BAMID | '2016 Taipei International TV Forum'

The 2016 Taipei International TV Forum, which took place from Sept. 28 through 30 at Taipei's Sunworld Dynasty Hotel, was visited by potential buyers from around the world who came to engage in content trading on the 282 audiovisual works available this year from Taiwan.

This year, the Ministry of Culture expanded the exhibition section, adding "Science and Technology Exhibition (AR/VR Experience)” to highlight Taiwan's audiovisual techniques; "Collaborative Shooting Service” to market and promote scenic spots in Taiwan; and "Chinese-language Publishing” to showcase works adapted from literature.

In addition, to handle the development of new media and OTT platforms, the Ministry expanded the scale of the TV forum by holding three discussion sessions on the creation, production, and marketing of intellectual property related to TV dramas.

Roughly 45 buyers from China, France, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, the United States, and Vietnam with previous purchasing experience of Taiwan's audiovisual content were invited this year. Buyers from Southeast Asia accounted for 40% of the delegates.

First-time attendees, such as representatives from countries including Croatia, Serbia, and Ukraine, also participated in the forum to discuss potential transactions with 52 Taiwan TV channels, production companies, animation studios, documentary makers, and related companies. Their participation reflect the growing market for Chinese-language film and television.

The Taipei International TV Forum, formerly known as the Taipei TV Festival, has become a major transaction and matchmaking hub for international TV content since its launch in 2004.

To enhance its exchange and transaction functions, the Taipei International TV Forum was transformed into an event mainly for one-on-one meetings between buyers and sellers in 2015, which allows quality Taiwan TV programs to directly contact international vendors and achieve the goal of "localizing international cooperation and internationalizing local culture.”
