NTMoFA presents 'Vanguards of an Emerging Identity: A Century of Artistic Power at the Taiwan Cultural Association in Taichung'

With the aim of highlighting Taiwan's cultural identity, "Vanguards of an Emerging Identity: A Century of Artistic Power at the Taiwan Cultural Association in Taichung" exhibition was held at The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) in Taichung from March 20 through June 20, on occasion of the 100th founding anniversary of the Taiwanese Cultural Association (TCA).

The exhibition explores Taiwan's century-old fine arts movement through the cultural enlightenment inspired by the TCA's establishment as well as Taiwan's art history starting from the era of Japanese rule to post-WWII years, focusing especially on the geographical relationship of Taichung. It also highlights the changing face of Taiwan's cultural development during the past 100 years.

On display at the exhibition are 159 items, including 49 paintings, five sculptures, 30 photographic works, 78 letters, manuscripts, diaries and other related documents.

The artists whose works are on display include Li Shih-chiao (李石樵), Chen Zhi-qi (陳植棋), Chen Cheng-po (陳澄波), Yen Shui-long (顏水龍), Kuo Hsueh-hu (郭雪湖), Yang Chi-tung (楊啟東), Lin Yu-shan (林玉山), Li Mei-shu (李梅樹) and Lin Chih-chu (林之助) among others.
