National Changhua Living Art Center presents 'Zhang Xian-ping Rattan and Bamboo Weaving Exhibition'

The National Changhua Living Art Center will hold “Zhang Xian-ping Rattan and Bamboo Weaving Exhibition (經緯拾光─2021張憲平竹籐編織創作展)” from July 13 to August 29 to feature 51 weaving works by national treasure and weaving master Zhang Xian-ping (張憲平).

Born in Miaoli, Zhan Xian-ping accidentally stumbled into the world of bamboo weaving. He taught himself rattan and bamboo weaving without a teacher, and later adopted different techniques at home and abroad to create original painting techniques, and developed solemn works of art.

Zhang Xian-ping’s artistic style is not limited to that of ancient times. In addition to geometric patterns used in traditional weaving, he also presents more diverse themes and weaving structures. Some of his works are decorated with life-like three-dimensional weaving decorations, adding dexterity and vividness. In recent years, he has been involved in the creation of large-scale installation art by using bamboo to create a larger sense of space and expand the creative capacity of the weaving process.

In compliance with Central Epidemic Command Center’s pandemic prevention measures, National Changhua Living Art Center has adopted ways for the public to visit the venues through online registration. Currently, the areas open to the public include the first and second exhibition areas. Available time slots are 09:30-11:00, 13:00-14:30 and 15:00 -16:30 from Tuesday to Sunday.
