Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Sydney was established in February 2020. It is the Ministry of Culture's first overseas office in the Oceania region, which serves to further deepen Taiwan's cultural exchanges and collaborations with Australia and New Zealand.

Both Taiwan and Australia are home to an amazing diversity of indigenous cultures. Moreover, linguistic and archaeological evidence point to Taiwan as an ancestral homeland of the Austronesian peoples, including linkage between Taiwanese indigenous tribes and the Maori of New Zealand. The Cultural Division is committed to bringing them closer together to celebrate indigenous traditions and promote cultural advancement.

Apart from cherishing indigenous cultures, Taiwan also shares the values of democracy, diversity, inclusivity, and freedom of expression with Australia and New Zealand. Based in the region's cultural hub Sydney, the Cultural Division will partner with like-minded institutions, organizations, and festivals across Australia and New Zealand to introduce Taiwan's cultural creativity in cinema, visual arts, performing arts, literature as well as cultural heritage to local and international communities.
