Gorgeous Arts & Taiwan Crafts Exhibition presents exquisite crafts by Taiwanese artisans

More than a hundred Taiwanese artisans will jointly present their exquisite crafts of 12 categories spanning from lacquerwares to jade works at the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute's (NTCRI) Taipei branch from Nov. 20 to Feb. 28.

During the three-month presentation, viewers will be able to see 100-plus pieces of artworks made of stone, wood, metal, glass, jade, bamboo, and fiber, as well as ceramic works and multimedia installations by artisans selected by the "Taiwan Crafts Workshop (臺灣工藝之家)," a program launched in 2004 to help improve the quality of Taiwanese crafts.

The exhibition will be accompanied with a series of crafts-themed events, including seminars, master classes, and workshops that offer hands-on activity to make crafts, featuring ceramic artists Tsai Erh-Ping (蔡爾平), Hsieh Chia-heng (謝嘉亨), sculptor Chen Pei-tse (陳培澤), and metalwork artist Lu Hsueh-fen (呂雪芬).

"Taiwan Crafts Workshop" is a certification system established by NTCRI to recognize exceptional artisans. Since its establishment in 2004, the workshop has carried out five assessments and certified a total of 145 Taiwanese artisans who were subsequently conferred the title of "artisans of excellence" by the Ministry of Culture for their extraordinary craftsmanship.

Through the recognition, NTCRI seeks to cultivate a greater public understanding of the work environment of Taiwan's craftspeople. The institute also endeavors to integrate the artisanal sector with the nation's tourism industry in the hope of fostering a high-quality arts and crafts tourism.

The NTCRI's Taipei Branch was launched as an exchange platform for contemporary crafts and design. The center hosts the country's top crafts honors — the National Crafts Awards and the National Crafts Achievement Awards — as well as the Taiwan Craft Competition.
