TAICCA to showcase Taiwan's brand characters at 11th Licensing Japan

The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) will present 10 sets of brand characters and four popular LINE stickers as Taiwan's intellectual property (IP) representatives at the 11th Licensing Japan exhibition.

The 10 sets of brand characters were selected by an international jury panel set up by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) and Japan's Character Brand Licensing Association (CBLA). TAICCA and CBLA signed a cooperation agreement last year.

CBLA managing director Kazuo Rikukawa (陸川 和男) and members of the jury panel indicated that the selected brand characters from Taiwan are diverse in style and attractive in terms of world perspectives.

TAICCA's chairman Ting Hsiao-ching (丁曉菁) noted that Japan's character IP industry has been flourishing, and Taiwan's brand characters has gradually shown the distinctiveness and gained competitiveness in the Japanese marketplace. Last year, TAICCA led a team to participate in the Licensing Japan exhibition and grossed approximately NT$400 million. Ting said that she is looking forward to bringing more original IP contents abroad, in addition to further cooperation with brand character creators in exploring the Japanese market.

The top 10 Taiwanese Line sticker creators generated, on average, NT$200 million in cumulative sticker sales, and the top five even reaching NT$290 million, on average, according to a report on Line sticker revenue released by the company in 2020, reflecting the tremendous market potential in Taiwan and the possibility of exploring overseas marketplaces.

The international jury panel organized by TAICCA and CBLA on Feb. 5 conducted an online selection, based on what they considered with good potential in the Japanese marketplace.

TAICCA has also cooperated with LINE stickers to select four popular LINE sticker sets, including DOCA (豆卡頻道), sinkcomic (辛卡米克-喵喵草尼馬), FoodieG (吃貨雞仔), and thenothingseal (無所事事小海豹), to be presented at the Licensing Japan exhibition.

The 11th Licensing Japan will take place from April 14 to 16 in Tokyo, Japan.
