The fourth edition of the "2021 Taiwan x Japan Contemporary Lacquerware Exchange Exhibition (2021台灣X日本當代漆藝交流展)" will take place online and offline at the Fei Art Museum Yokohama in Japan from Sep. 28 to Oct. 14.

Under the theme of Healing Green Crafts, this exhibition is jointly organized by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) and Japan's Fei Art Museum Yokohama.

Due to the pandemic, the organizer has suspended physical exchanges between two countries and promoted the exhibition online instead. Therefore, the public can still appreciate transnational lacquer creations amid travel restrictions.

There are a total of 33 exhibitors this year, of which 13 are Taiwanese artists, including Shengwen Liao (廖勝文), Chao Chung-yuan (趙崇源), Meichiang Chang (張美姜), Chen Gui-hua (洪桂花), Hu Mei-lin(胡美林), Lung Mai-jun (龍美君), Lin Shi-ming(林世銘), Ou Hui-yi (歐慧宜), Chang Sai-ching (張賽青), Chang Sen-yang (張森洋), Hsiao Chia-yi (蕭嘉儀), Wu Ming-yuan (吳明媛), Chen Yen-chih (陳衍志).

The artworks are produced based on the themes of nature and life, ranging from Japan's geometric universe lacquer paintings, and Taiwan's anthropomorphic lacquer artworks. It opens a dialogue between people and nature through lacquer artworks, showing the rich characteristics, and making aesthetics approachable.

The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute has been committed to promoting international exchanges in recent years. It presents the diversified appearance of the development of lacquer crafts in the two places and provides new ideas and reflections on Taiwan's craft design.
