'International Migration and Human Rights: Online Forum and Workshop' launches on Oct. 20

From Oct. 20 to 22, the Federation of International Human Rights Museums-Asia Pacific (FIHRM-AP) and the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience (ICSC) will collaborate to launch a three-day "International Migration and Human Rights: Online Forum and Workshop," inviting museums and human rights organizations from various countries to dialogue about human rights.

The first forum "The Network of Museums for Migrants and Social Justice" will be launched online on Oct. 20. Co-hosted by the ICSC and the FIHRM-AP, the forum explores the way in which museums cooperate with migrant communities, communicate with the public, and foster cultural equality and accessibility. In the afternoon session, museums from various countries will be invited to discuss how museums can provide a safe space to allow for unofficial and non-mainstream immigration history and memories to be presented to the public.

Titled "Global Initiative for Justice, Truth and Reconciliation" and "Migrant Rights," the forum on Oct. 21 will address human rights issues such as labor and sexual exploitation, and threats of violence. It will explore how workers of human rights organization preserve memories through oral testimony and forensic anthropology, in addition to providing support systems such as sheltered care, physical and mental therapy to help migrants seek justice, healing, and rebuild their future.

Hosted by the ICSC, the last forum titled "Migrant Rights Training Workshop for Professionals" will carry out group discussions and online dialogues.

The Asia-Pacific branch of the Federation of International Human Rights Museums (FIHRM-AP) was launched in 2019 at the Taiwan's National Human Rights Museum, marking a new milestone in Taiwan's aspirations of becoming the beacon of human rights in Asia.
