Showcase of original Taiwanese VR works in Bangkok receives positive remarks

"WITHIN Taiwan's Selected VR Works (WITHIN臺灣VR作品選集)," a touring exhibition co-organized by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, Taiwan's Digital Art Foundation and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, will showcase Taiwanese VR works in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 15 through July 17.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dean of Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts Bussakorn Binson, Thai contemporary artist Chulayarnnon Siriphol and Director-General of the Japan Foundation in Bangkok Kuriyama Masayuki (栗山政幸). They were captivated by the virtual reality (VR) experience as well as the rich content of the exhibition.

Through the application of VR, this exhibition presents the cross-disciplinary works of Taiwanese digital artists who integrate technology and culture in their creations. Exhibited works include "Afterimage for Tomorrow (留給未來的殘影)" a collaborative work between director Singing Chen (陳芯宜) and choreographer Chou Shou-yi (周書毅); "Throbbing Sonic (悸動響)" by sound artist Wu Fujui (王福瑞); and "From Flesh and Blood to Virtuality (肉身到虛擬—極相林)" by choreographer Ho Hsiao-mei (何曉玫). The exhibition is along with a series of exchange seminars between Taiwan and Thailand, leading Thai audiences to explore the aesthetic experience through watching the Taiwanese films, and the intersection of sound art, contemporary dance and VR technology.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand Hsu Wei-ming (徐蔚民) said, "It is an exciting opportunity to showcase an immersive VR experience and the best VR content presented by Taiwanese artists. I am also happy to see two of the most innovative countries - Taiwan and Thailand - engaging in a cross-border and cross-domain collaboration in the field of technology and art."

Prapon Kumjim, head of the Art Center at Chulalongkorn University, hoped that this exhibition will spark the imagination of Thai people, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding on digital art and VR technology and at the same time, act as a catalyst to trigger the advancement of local creations.
