Three Taiwanese artists to represent Taiwan at Aichi Triennale 2022

Three Taiwanese artists Huang Hsin-chien (黃心健), Hsu Chia-wei (許家維), and Yu Cheng-ta (余政達) have been selected to join the Aichi Triennale (愛知三年展), one of the largest international art festivals in Japan, to showcase the artistic energy of Taiwan on the international stage.

The Aichi Triennale 2022 will run from July 30 through Oct. 10 with the theme "STILL ALIVE," inviting artists from Japan and around the globe to exhibit their works. The theme "STILL ALIVE" was inspired by a series of telegrams with the message "I Am Still Alive" sent by the Aichi-born renowned conceptual artist On Kawara (河原溫). To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Huang collaborated with American artist Laurie Anderson to create a virtual reality installation artwork titled "To the Moon," using the technology of VR to take viewers back to the scene of the landing.

In Hsu's newest installation work, he integrates virtual reality and real work to show the urban planning, ceramics industry and modernization of the Aichi Prefecture, reflecting the symbiosis of humans and land. Video installation "Mineral Crafts (礦物工藝)" will also be showcased at the exhibition, it connects the landform of Jinguashi and the development of mining history with the relationship between copper and humans in the past, the present, and the future. Yu and Singaporean artist Ming Wong's work "Watermelon Sisters" combines music videos, 3D interaction design, and 3D printing. It reveals a broader imagination for gender and advertises the inclusiveness of Taiwan.

The Aichi Triennale is an urban international art festival, held every three years since 2010 across a wide region including the Aichi Arts Center and other city venues. Since 2010, there have been 2.45 million visitors to Aichi Triennale.
