NTMoFA collaborates with South Korean museum to launch global photography cultural exchange exhibition

Following the success of the solo exhibition by world-renowned photographer Thomas Ruff last year, a large-scale solo exhibition "Erwin Olaf: Perfect Moment – Incomplete World (埃爾溫‧奧拉夫:完美時刻─未竟世界)," curated by the Suwon Museum of Art in South Korea, will be presented at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) in Taiwan from Aug. 13 through Nov. 27.

According to Park Hyun-jin, curator of the Suwon Museum of Art, the exhibition features a selection of 134 of Olaf's photography, installation, and video works, several series created across the span of 40 years. The curation is separated into four categories: "12 X Erwin Olaf (引經據典:12位大師與埃爾溫‧奧拉夫)," "Moments: Epic Rending (情境時刻:敘事性演出)," "Cities: Between Fantasies (城市空間:奇幻意境)," and "Classics: Contemporaneous (經典圖像:超越當代)," each manifesting how Olaf's seemingly calm and perfect moments of everyday life are in fact revelations of the "imperfect world" of contemporary society.

Addressing the opening ceremony on Aug. 13, NTMoFA's director Liao Jen-I (廖仁義) expressed his gratitude to the Netherlands Office Taipei (NLOT) for introducing the collaboration between NTMoFA and the Suwon Museum of Art. He mentioned that Olaf is not only a recognized master in the international photography community, but also a highly regarded artist in the Netherlands. In addition, he expressed his hope that Taiwan, South Korea, and Holland will work in hand for more cultural and artistic exchanges in the future.

Born in 1959 in Hilversum, the Amsterdam-based artist expressed his excitement about exhibiting his works in Taiwan in a pre-recorded video. He shared that all of his works present more or less a perfect world with a little flaw. He expects that his works will enable the audience to think about their own situations, dreams, and emotions.

The exhibition will be held in room 101 from Aug. 13 to Nov. 27. For more information, please visit NTMoFA's website.
