5th Taiwan Documentary Film Festival returns to Thailand

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand has joined hands with Thailand's Documentary Club to organize the 5th Taiwan Documentary Film Festival in Thailand. The festival is separated into two parts, the main event in Bangkok kicked off on Oct. 26 and will end on Oct. 30; whereas the upcoming screenings in Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Songkhla will take place from Nov 4 to 6.

This year's lineup encompasses six documentaries, five feature films, and another program comprised of five shorts. The film "The Terrorizers (恐怖份子)," directed by late Taiwanese director Edward Yang (楊德昌), was selected as the opening film. The Cultural Division pointed out that more than 400 pre-sale tickets for two rounds of screenings are almost sold out. It shows that Taiwanese films are well-supported and loved by Thai audiences.

Other titles include "The Bride Who Has Returned from Hell (地獄新娘)" by Hsin Chi (辛奇), "Tarzan and the Treasure (泰山寶藏)" by Liang Che-fu's (梁哲夫), "Dad's Suit (老大人)" by Hong Bo-hao (洪伯豪), "A Silent Gaze (北將七)" by Huang Hsin-yao (黃信堯), "City of Lost Things(廢棄之城)" by Yee Chih-yen (易智言), to name a few. In addition to the screenings, a series of post-film events such as dialogue sessions with the filmmakers will be held.

At the opening ceremony, Taiwan's representative to Thailand Chuang Suo-hang (莊碩漢) stated that this year's festival unveils a diverse lineup of titles. Besides featuring drama films and documentaries, the festival will also screen animations produced in Taiwan. It is hoped that through the films, Thai audiences will be able to enjoy and experience Taiwanese culture, thereby prompting more cultural exchanges between the two nations.

The ministry hopes that by showing Taiwanese films across Thailand, more Thai audiences will be able to learn about the classics and creativity of Taiwanese films. For more information, please visit the Taiwan Documentary Film Festival in Thailand's Facebook page.
