Taiwanese performers and artists will join the lineup celebrating the Year of the Rooster at the 15th edition of Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts taking place in Singapore from Feb. 3 through 12.

The Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts is an annual Singaporean event ushering in the Lunar New Year with art. Programs and workshops in theater, dance, music, and visual arts are presented by notable and award-winning artists from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan.

This year, Taiwanese artists including Stan Lai (賴聲川), Yoga Lin (林宥嘉), Cloud Gate 2 (雲門2), PiA (吳蓓雅), Eli Hsieh (謝震廷), and the Happy Puppetry Company (真快樂掌中劇團) have been invited to deliver diverse performances.

Lai is a renowned theater director who was named "best Chinese-language playwright and director in the world” by BBC. As artist director of Performance Workshop, he will lead the troupe to stage its most representative work - "Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land (暗戀桃花源)” - on Feb. 11 and 12.

Lin, a singer-songwriter and season 1 winner of Taiwanese singing contest "One Million Star,” will return to Singapore with his band on Feb. 3 to perform songs from his latest album "Sell Like Hot Cakes.” Famous for his wide vocal range and versatile music style, Lin was nominated for Best New Artist at the 20th Golden Melody Awards.

Cloud Gate 2, the junior wing of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre established in 1999, will host a workshop on Feb. 7 and 8 to introduce one of its training methods - Tai Chi Dao Yin (太極導引). Yang Ling-kai (楊淩凱), the troupe's rehearsal director, will instruct and guide participants to practice two core concepts of such an exercise, including the flow of breathing and the circular mode of movements.

Hosted by Esplanade, Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts was established in 2003 to celebrate Singapore's multicultural heritage and provide a platform for Chinese artists of all genres to showcase their works.
