A joint exhibition featuring renowned printmakers from Taiwan and Japan will be held at the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo from Nov. 4 through Dec. 9.
The 31 displays were made by artists such as the Father of Printmaking Liao Shiou-ping (廖修平), as well as Chung You-hui (鐘有輝), Lin Hsueh-ching (林雪卿), Yang Ming-dye (楊明迭), Huang Yue-sheng (黃郁生), Pan Chin-jui (潘勁瑞), Lai Mei-hui (賴美惠), Huang De-cheng (黃得誠), and Liao Chun-li (廖俊立).
The 22 Taiwanese artists will be joined by 8 printmakers from Japan, including intaglio and etching artist Tadayoshi Nakabashi (中林忠良), who deals with the process of decay, block-print artist Teruo Isomi (磯見輝夫), wood-engraver Kobayashi Keisei (小林敬生), and printmaker Takasuke Nakayama (中山隆右).
Judy Ongg (翁倩玉), a Taiwanese actress and a naturalized Japanese citizen, will contribute a lily-themed woodblock print to the exhibition, whereas featured artist Lin Hsueh-ching (林雪卿) will donate a piece titled "Formosa” to the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo.
"Taiwan & Japan: Renowned Printmakers” is made possible with support from the Taiwan-based Paris Foundation of Art (財團法人巴黎文教基金會). The opening ceremony presided by Frank Hsieh (謝長廷), ROC representative to Japan, will take place at 3pm on Nov. 4.
