Taiwanese artists to discuss migrant labor in Thailand project

Taiwan's Open Contemporary Art Center (OCAC) will present its ideas and observations on migrant labor issues through an international interdisciplinary art program based in Thailand and scheduled for Sept. 1, 2016 through Jan. 31, 2017.

"365 Days: LIFE MUSE (Model study for Nongpho community's foreign labours)” is a residency program organized by Bann Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture. Bann Noorg is a cultural initiative run by two artists collectively known as "jiandyin” from the Nongpho community in Thailand.

The "365 Days” program has offered residency this year to Chaw Su and Chaw Chaw, a couple from Myanmar who are working in Thailand, to use the space provided by Bann Noorg.

Thai artists, as well as artists from Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines, will be invited throughout the year to participate in the program. The visiting artists will help develop projects and discuss foreign labor issues with the resident artists and other Myanmar workers residing in the Nongpo community.

The Open Contemporary Art Center, which is composed of independent artists from Taiwan, is collaborating with migrant workers and artists to explore about how people will live together in the next 10 years.

Research, observations, and insights of the participating artists will be presented at the Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture and Silpakorn University through artist talk sessions and an exhibition.

After participating in the Thai program, the OCAC will focus on the future prospects of Taiwan's new immigrants.
