Taiwan gears up for 2016 Singapore Book Fair

Writers Sun Hsin-yu (孫心瑜), Liu Ka-hsiang (劉克襄), Lee Wei-jing (李維菁), and Liu Tzu-chieh (劉梓潔) will represent Taiwan at this year's Singapore Book Fair under the flagship theme 'A Touch of Imagination: Books from Taiwan.'

Running from June 3 through 9, the Singapore Book Fair is the sole exhibition in Singapore that displays books published in Chinese and English, providing publishers in Southeast Asia with an excellent trade platform.

The 2016 Taiwan Pavilion will offer nine sections, including picture books from illustrator Sun, eco-fiction by nature writer Liu Ka-hsiang, and prose collections from novelist Lee and playwright Liu Tzu-chieh. Sun and Liu Ka-hsiang will also hold a public forum and promote discourse among participating Singaporean exhibitiongoers.

To help more people understand Taiwan through reading, the Ministry of Culture is supporting over 300 publishers in their participation of the 2016 Singapore Book Fair. The Ministry will also present Singaporean book clubs and literature communities with free copies of award-winning works from last year's Golden Tripod Awards for publications and the Golden Comic Awards for manga and graphic novels.

Moreover, to bridge the gap between physical and digital publications, the Taiwan Pavilion will be equipped with a digital section and hold screenings of audiovisual productions adapted from Taiwan literature.

A copyright booth will also help to match-make quality Taiwan publications with international publishers. The global expansion of original publications from Taiwan will reflect the Ministry's concept of "local flavors, global tastes,” in which a quality tale rooted in Taiwanese culture will be readily accepted by international readers.
