Tokyo-based photographer to hold solo show

Taiwanese photographer Lin Chia-wen (林佳文), who was named young artist of the year by Art Taipei 2014, will hold a solo exhibition at the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo from Dec. 12 through Jan. 20, 2016.

Lin, 27, is a photographer who wishes to create images that are "sincere, gentle, and powerful” by working with analog cameras and the traditional printing techniques of silkscreen and gelatin silver.

Born in Tainan, Lin studied and lived in Leipzig, Prague, and Denmark's Silkeborg before relocating to Tokyo. Throughout the years, she has not limited herself to portraits or still life, but used images as a way of composing stories and poems that enable dialogue with the world.

In this particular series, Lin captures the infinitesimal yet deafening differences that she observed about her homeland Taiwan after concluding her long odyssey overseas. The 22 featured photographs will reveal not only her deft technical skills but her astute observations and emotional clarity.
