Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu (盧廣仲) will lead metal band Flesh Juicer (血肉果汁機) and rock trio Sorry Youth (拍謝少年) to join the 2015 Summer Sonic, one of the largest international rock music festivals in Japan.
Summer Sonic attracts more than ten thousands of fans from around the world each year since its establishment in 2000. This year's lineup includes Pharrell Williams, The Chemical Brothers, and Imagine Dragons.
Metal band Chthonic (閃靈), which lead the Taiwanese delegation to Summer Sonic last year, also compiled a "TAIWANDERFUL vol. 1” album featuring 17 tracks by Taiwanese artists. The album will be made available at the "Taiwan Music x Culture: TAIWANDERFUL 2015” event on Aug. 14 at the Liquid Room in Tokyo.
The Aug. 14 event will first offer food, albums, and films to introduce Taiwanese culture to Japanese audiences starting 4pm, whereas the concert portion of the event will kick off at 7pm. Lu, Flesh Juicer, and Sorry Youth will be joined by Chthonic and DJ Mykal (林哲儀) for the live performances at Liquid Room.
Summer Sonic is held around the time of Japan's Ullambana Festival - also known by its shortened name Bon Festival, which shares similar Buddhist and Taoist customs with the Ghost Month observed in Taiwan. Therefore, the organizers have chosen to decorate the Liquid Room in the traditional colors and fashion of Taiwanese temple fairs.
The temple theme will also be reflected by the performance props used by Flesh Juicer and Sorry Youth. Flesh Juicer members often don pig-faced masks, and Sorry Youth wear fish heads as a tribute to their band mascot and coastal origins.
