The Taiwan Pavilion at the upcoming Singapore Book Fair, the only bilingual fair showcasing both Chinese and English publications in Singapore, will feature four Taiwanese writers and display books related to nine different themes.
Themed "Time for Taiwan: The Journey of Reading,” the Taiwan Pavilion will use the imagery of open books to symbolize the flight of imagination offered by the habit of reading. The venue will be decorated with Taiwan's unique Formosa sambar deer (水鹿) and butterfly species to reflect Taiwan's rich cultural diversity and high-quality publications.
The Taiwan Pavilion has invited four different writers — Fumijan (敷米漿), Eric Wu (吳若權), fourone41 (肆一), and Ku Ling (苦苓) — to participate in the Singapore Book Fair alongside the Taiwanese delegation. They will jointly host a Taiwan Literature Festival series on the theme of "Time for Taiwan: The Journey of Reading” to meet with Singaporean readers through seminars and lectures.
Writer fourone41 will hold a book-signing event at Books Kinokuniya Singapore, while Wu and Fumijan will meet readers at the Grassroots Book Room in Singapore. The Ministry of Culture hopes that these events will help Singaporean readers learn more about Taiwanese writers and foster further publishing and cultural exchanges.
The 2015 edition of the Singapore Book Fair will be held from June 3 and 9 this year. The annual book fair showcases more than 300,000 books in both Chinese and English, and attracts more than half a million visitors every year.
