Taiwanese contemporary sculpture artist Hong Yi (洪易) will simultaneously hold solo exhibitions at Taipei 101 in Taiwan, Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Spain, and Artspace K in Hong Kong from Dec. 17,2020 through Feb. 28, 2021. In the midst of pandemic time, by connecting exhibitions of art works in different countries, exhibit-goers can view spectacular art exhibitions without travelling abroad.
Hong Yi will be the first Taiwanese artist and the first artist from Asia, invited to give exhibition at Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia, Spain, making this solo exhibition of special significance. In the past, only well-known European artists have been invited to give exhibitions there.
Fourteen sculpture works by Hong will be on view first at Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and later will continue to tour four cities in Spain, including Alicante, Benidorm, Málaga, and Madrid.
Concurrently, Artspace K in Hong Kong will be exhibiting Hung's solo exhibition titled "Winter Joy," featuring the artist's animal series, crafted in hand-painted welded and forged steel, culminating into a burst of energy and vibrancy.
At the same time, Taipei 101 will be showcasing 27 masterpieces by Hung, at the outside courtyard, exhibition space on the 1st floor, life aesthetics show room on the 4th floors, and the observatory on the 89th floor, transforming Taipei 101 into an extensive art studio.
Helmed from Taichung, acclaimed contemporary artist Hung drew his inspiration from Taiwanese culture and everyday lives of people in Taiwan. His much appreciated unique creations feature whimsical and colorful animal shapes, which are full of childlike playfulness, and the unique totem designs of local color.
Hung always wanted to show the beauty of Taiwanese culture in his works and share with the world. Under the beautiful and moving New Year’s Eve fireworks at Taipei 101, everyone is invited to experience the magical joy of Hung Yi’s colorful menagerie sculptures, and be touched with joy and positive energy to welcome the upcoming new year.
